UWM's investment process ensures dollars are directed where they can make the biggest impact.
We invest nearly 93 cents of every donated dollar back into the metro – and our community member
volunteer review team uses their expertise and lived experience to review applications and
help UWM make funding recommendations that remove barriers and create opportunities across the metro.
The Community Investment Process
- Involves more than 100 community volunteers
- UWM sets goals and metrics to ensure dollars are spent wisely – and reviews progress throughout the investment process
- Explicit emphasis on programs that address social and economic disparities
Our Focus
Our four focus areas work together to create a circle of support that addresses social and economic disparities while connecting families with a network of essential resources.
Food access, shelter and homeless prevention, physical and behavioral health, case management and legal services, Combined Health Agencies Drive (CHAD) and more.
Childcare and early childhood development, after school and summer learning, mentoring, college and career readiness, family engagement, JAG Nebraska and more.
Education and training, employment and entrepreneurship, financial literacy and asset development, Siemer Institute partnership and more.
Referrals to health and human service resources via the 211 Helpline (NE and IA), CRCSP, Goodfellows, Emergency Food & Shelter Program, disaster relief/recovery and more.

There are several ways you can make a gift to UWM and build your legacy of community change and support:
A bequest is a gift made through your will or trust. It is one of the most popular and flexible ways that you can
support UWM's ongoing investment in our community.
If you are 70½ or older you may be looking for a way to lower the income and taxes from your IRA withdrawals. An IRA charitable rollover is a way you can benefit this year and help UWM continue our work throughout the metro.
With a donor advised fund, you can make gifts during your lifetime, and when you pass away, your children can carry on your legacy of giving.
If you have a life insurance policy that has outlasted its original purpose, consider making a gift of your policy to UWM.
Or, you might want to consider taking out a life insurance policy with UWM named as the beneficiary.
A donation of appreciated real estate, such as a home, vacation property, undeveloped land, farmland, ranch or commercial property is another unique way you can support UWM's work.
