Charitable Investment Fund
United Way of the Midlands has been investing on behalf of our community for more than 100 years—we know how to steward gifts that create lasting impact. It's the heart of what we do. Our investment process draws on best practices in philanthropy and deep local knowledge to support high-quality programs. Just as we've done with the Karnett Trust, UWM can apply this capability to your trust or family and ensure faithful, ongoing stewardship aligned with the issues you care about most. We ensure long-term gifts remain true to donor intent while maximizing their reach. With UWM, you can trust that your generosity will be carefully managed to create meaningful, lasting change.
A Legacy of Impact: The Karnett Trust (Call Out)
United Way of the Midlands administers the Karnett Trust, a fund established to support 501© (3) nonprofit organizations in Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie counties. These funds are designated for programs that focus on the care, education and training of children and young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in the Omaha-metropolitan area. The trust was created by Ellen C. Karnett to honor her son, Richard, ensuring that children with intellectual disabilities in our community receive vital support and resources.
Organizations considered for funding must meet the criteria of serving children and young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. The discernment process and subsequent funding is completed as dividends grow, with approval by the UWM Board of Directors. The original gift amount is entrusted as principal and never withdrawn.
A Trusted Steward for OPPD and Omaha-World Herald
UWM's ability to steward your legacy gift is rooted in experience. These partnerships reflect the trust placed in us by esteemed institutions that serve as cornerstones of our community – trust you can count on when choosing UWM to steward your legacy gift with care and impact.
